The Sun is Gonna Shine

“Trouble in mind
Yes I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
Sun is gonna shine
In my back door someday.”

These are the lyrics to a really old blues song from the 1920's called "Trouble In Mind," one of many songs in a genre created by enslaved people looking for hope in any corner.

I am not part of this heritage but have a deep love for its message. It combines acceptance and assurance into the same melodic package that many of us need to hear, even in 2023. This isn't a post about race relations, as crucial a topic as that is.

Instead, it is about hope for how we live our lives, especially career.

This song is on my mind a lot this week as I prepare to start a new corporate job. I am (and will continue to be) a coach for professional women over 40 deciding to stay or leave #distressingwork.

I was once one of them.
I won't be one of them this time.
I've learned some things!

🤔 I know my top values and chose my role and new company using them as a compass.

🤔 Having said that, I am radically accepting the unknown. There's only so much one can know about a company before being in it. I trust myself to handle the unexpected.

🤔 I know how to talk back to myself. I identified my Saboteurs and have multiple Sage techniques waiting in the wings for when they appear.

🤔 I wrote a whole guide on surviving distressing work already! I am ready with empathetic actions if I need them. (Get yours by signing up for my email list on this site).

Need a coach to help you with ending or starting a job?

I'm here! Though I now have a waiting list.
