Play Big
Whoa! I wasn't expecting THAT! What just happened here?
One of the biggest stressors at work (and in life!) can be unmet expectations.
Did you interview with an amazing manager and accept the role largely in part because of her - and then you show up on day one and find out she left the company? Or maybe your job responsibilities are not at all when you expected from the job description?
Unmet #careerexpectations wreak havoc on our mental health in general, and especially at work, where we spend so much of our life.
So what can you do about it?
๐ฅ PLAY BIG ๐ฅ
How?
๐Accept your mad/sad feelings exactly as they are. Yes, it sucks. Letting go of the struggle against expectations will free you to address things as they are now.
๐ Retain your agency. It's easy to feel you don't have any control after things change and just do what "they" say. Look for creative ways to improve where you are.
๐ Collect details of what you were expecting + use them to formulate clear needs + values for next time. One idea: my $99 North Star Values Assessment.
No one has to ever just accept the unexpected lying down.
