No Such Thing as Anger?

Have you ever heard there is no such thing as anger?

I can hear you scoffing from here.

A therapist told me this. He said anger is actually made up of other emotions that are harder to express.

Do you know where that anger typically comes from? Only you can say for sure but it is often frustration, stress, dismay, and/or sadness at the situation you are experiencing when your career or job is #distressingwork.

Anger at work can look like rage, fury, irritability or just plain annoyance. And it can be dangerous in the workplace. Your manager may take offense at your tone, or worse, you could be targeted for "removal" from the organization.

So let's get this complex emotion out - safely:

😤 Write out your pain! Starting a Morning Pages habit before your workday starts will get you grounded.

😤 Play music - preferably loud and fast. Music is known to reduce the stress hormones driving your anger higher. Need ideas? Here is a Spotify playlist.

😤 Ask a trusted co-worker to keep an ear out for you inappropriately expressing anger in public

This tip comes from my freebie: "Survive Distressing Work." There are more strategies where this one comes from once you sign up on my website and download the 10 page guide.
